My wife and I went to Disney World over the Christmas holiday. We went to two of the four main parks. It's crazy how easy everything was from the tickets to the parks to the rides, etc. Everything had a purpose. Don't get me wrong; we have Six Flags here in Atlanta. Six Flags (in my opinion) definitely has better rides. It just doesn't have a "We care about you" feeling. It doesn't feel clean like Disney does. It's almost like they have a giant duster that goes over the whole Disney park that makes it shine like Whoa! Something about Disney makes every ride (even the transportation) feel like an experience.
It reminded me of the purpose of UX or User-Experience. Design everything with purpose in mind. Retain your customers because you had them first in your mind, not yourself. Walt Disney was a beast at this, and it shows throughout every park, ticket, employee and experience you have. Think about that next time you start a project, design or website.Continue reading
