Walt Disney is a Beast

My wife and I went to Disney World over the Christmas holiday. We went to two of the four main parks. It's crazy how easy everything was from the tickets to the parks to the rides, etc. Everything had a purpose. Don't get me wrong; we have Six Flags here in Atlanta. Six Flags (in my opinion) definitely has better rides. It just doesn't have a "We care about you" feeling. It doesn't feel clean like Disney does. It's almost like they have a giant duster that goes over the whole Disney park that makes it shine like Whoa! Something about Disney makes every ride (even the transportation) feel like an experience.

It reminded me of the purpose of UX or User-Experience. Design everything with purpose in mind. Retain your customers because you had them first in your mind, not yourself. Walt Disney was a beast at this, and it shows throughout every park, ticket, employee and experience you have. Think about that next time you start a project, design or website.

Combating Perfectionism, Part II

As a freelancer, I was a horrible self-manager. I admit it. I didn’t want to track my time, do billing or work on projects that I thought were difficult. Foursquare for Business

Last Tuesday, Foursquare launched its second iOS app—Foursquare for Business.  Originally, the Foursquare app is used to "check-in" at various places and collect points, prizes and badges—you can even get coupons!  Although it's gained respectable popularity since its 2009 launch, the privately-owned company hasn't generated as much revenue as  they'd desired.

Vine: New Limits

Many of us began our weeks by registering for yet another social media platform. In case you missed it, Vine was just released by Twitter and allows users to post six-second video clips to a layout very similar to Instagram's. It's hard not to see this as Twitter's one-up to Facebook's acquisition of Instagram...which was hard not to see as Facebook's one-up to Twitter.
